Granada - Nicaragua

Granada is a very nice, very comfortable city. Considering the we are in one of the poorest countries in the western hemisphere, it's quite a surprise. We could get iced coffee and have wireless internet. Just the type of bare necessities to help us to survive.

This large yellow cathedral is at the center of town.

This is an old monument for the Sandinista party. They were the communist government in the 1980s that Ronald Reagan was determined to destroy. For more info click here. These days the people are pretty skeptical of all government leaders, whether communist or not.

Masaya Volcano was a cool trip. We went as the sun was going down. It was huge and a large column of smoke is constantly blowing out of the middle.

The gas maks were to keep the smoke and ash from irritating our lungs. It also makes a cool picture.

Looking at the cars to the left, gives you an idea of how big this crater is. Notice that they keep the cars park facing down the mountain. That's because if the volcano starts to erupt, we have a quicker getaway.

We also went into some caves with bats.

That's it for Granada. Next stop: Roatan Island in Honduras.
